The WORDPRO FTP Server
Send Job Message
The method for sending us digital files via the Internet is to connect to our FTP (File Transfer Protocol) server. Simply click on "The WORDPRO FTP Server" button above and follow the instructions below.
For print files, we normally require a PDF or 2000/2002 Publisher Pack & Go file. Be sure to read our instructions regarding PDF or PDF995 files or Publisher Pack & Go
prior to creating one.
To FTP files to us using Explorer or Netscape:
- Using Explorer or the new Netscape, open the FTP window above, open Windows Explorer (or Macintosh Finder) and find your file to upload, and just drag & drop the file into the FTP window. Using older versions of Netscape, open the
FTP window and click on "Upload" under the "File" menu. Find your file and press the upload button.
- Fill-in a README message separately from your imaging files. Go to Send Job Message to fill-out and send this message. If you get a "Form Confirmation" screen on
your computer, the job file has been received. You do not need to call us for confirmation.
- All files that are uploaded via our FTP connection are regularly swept out of our PUB folder to a secure location on our print servers. Therefore, if you do not see your file name in the PUB folder after uploading, it normally means that it
has been removed by the automatic sweep. Don't upload folders (only files) -- folders will not be swept out of the PUB file.
- If you're uploading Macintosh files, you MUST binhex your files or compress them with StuffIt BEFORE uploading them to our FTP Server, or they will not transfer correctly. This step can be skipped if your Mac file has
been converted to a PDF file prior to uploading.
If you are not able to create a PDF file of your manuscript, call us in advance to check the compatibility of your application and fonts. OR, if your computer is attached to a laser printer AND your job is black/white, check
"Print to File" in the print menu. Type in a file name different from the original and make sure the file extension *.ps (not *.prn or *pm) is attached. Then click ok. Drag & drop the file into the FTP window.
If a *prn or *pm extension appears, you have selected the wrong laser print driver (for example, the PCL driver and not a POSTSCRIPT driver). Change drivers and try again.
Another method for transferring files is to send them as an e-mail attachment. However, we do not permit our customers to e-mail files to us because this type of file transmission can be unreliable and time consuming. Any files that are
sent to The WORDPRO via e-mail attachment are automatically deleted from our system.
